• NOTE: Early History of Quartz Crystals (Some say that the Leon "Lee" Faber story on that page is not quite accurate. Lee started the crystal business in his Batavia, IL garage before moving into the rear of James Knight's battery shop in Sandwich. Lee was a member of the Fox River Radio League in Aurora, IL, and (according to Benny W9CZA, SK and former China Clipper radioman) would sell crystals to club members on credit in those early days before the war, being paid 5 or 10 cents each. There is one example, which was found in the basement of W9NE, SK, who was the last surviving founding member of the FRRL (by CHRIS KC9IEQ, a member, and former club officer). The crystals were marked" "Batavia ILL".
